Open-source components

Early-access version. The operating entity's details will be added before billing opens; the content describes how the system works today.

Browlix is built from many open-source components. This page says which components each thing Browlix ships contains, under which licenses, and where to read their full copyright notices.

Website and web app

The code and fonts your browser downloads from browlix.com come from open-source packages, most of them under the MIT, ISC, Apache-2.0 or BSD licenses; the Geist typeface is under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The full list with the text of every license: web app notices.

Worker, CLI and desktop app

Every program you install carries the notices of the components inside it:

  • Worker: run browlix-worker licenses, or read the worker notices.
  • CLI: run browlix licenses, or read the CLI notices.
  • Desktop app: the THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt file in its installation folder, or the desktop app notices.

Every program also has a software bill of materials (SBOM) in the CycloneDX format for each operating system: worker Ubuntu · worker Windows · CLI Ubuntu · CLI Windows · desktop Ubuntu · desktop Windows.

Components under the MPL-2.0 license are used unmodified; their source code is on crates.io under the exact name and version the notices give.

Before a worker or CLI release, Browlix checks automatically that no component has a published security vulnerability, that every license is on the accepted list, and that the notices match the components actually used. A build that fails the check is not released.

Browser core

The Browlix browser core is official Chromium with a small set of patches Browlix owns. Chromium's license notices are inside the browser itself, on the chrome://credits page.

Every core release comes with two public documents:

  • Software bill of materials (SBOM) in the SPDX format, made from the very source tree the core was built from.
  • Build provenance: the upstream Chromium commit, the Browlix patch set, the build settings, the toolchain versions, the package hash and the result of an independent rebuild, signed with the Browlix release key (the same key the worker uses to check its updates).

The core released today: Ubuntu · Windows. Replace stable in the address with a specific version, for example 156.0.8078.73-bx.1, to see that release.
